I received my Master’s Degree in Immunology and Molecular Biology from Eotvos University in Budapest, Hungary. Here, under the guidance of Dr. Anna Erdei, I worked on the roles of serum proteins involved in the activation and regulation of the innate immune system. After completing my Master’s Degree I moved to Madison, WI to pursue my Ph.D. degree in Cellular and Molecular Pathology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. My Ph.D. thesis focused on the initiation of immune responses against central nervous system-derived antigens and the role of dendritic cells in this process. In several cooperative efforts with other members in my laboratory, I gained experience in influenza and Mycobacterium bovis infectious disease immunology models. I joined Dr. Vijay Kuchroo’s laboratory in April 2006. I currently work on the regulation of T cell responses by Tim-3 and its ligand, galectin-9. I found that galectin-9 and Tim-3 have novel, so far unknown indirect effects on the regulation of Th1 and Th17 responses. In cooperation with Chen Zhu, I am also working on developing a Tim-3-deficient mouse model on the C57BL/6 genetic background.
