I grew up in Hamilton, Ontario, a city of about 300,000 located halfway
between Toronto and Niagara Falls. I received an Honours Bachelor of
Arts and Science degree from McMaster University in Hamilton, before
starting a Ph.D. at the University of Toronto under the supervision of
Josef Penninger. I investigated the role of the immunoregulatory
molecules T-bet and Cbl-b in the pathogenesis of murine experimental
autoimmune myocarditis (EAM). I had the good fortune of completing my
Ph.D. studies in the gorgeous imperial city of Vienna when Josef moved
his lab there in 2003. I defended my Ph.D. at the University of Toronto
in December 2006.

I believe that an important goal of modern biology is to shed light and
insight on the mechanisms of disease, with the ultimate aim of
alleviating human suffering. The Center for Neurologic Disease, and the
Kuchroo lab in particular, is an excellent place to pursue these
interests. I am investigating the role of costimulatory signaling
pathways in both T cell biology and the pathogenesis of EAE. I am also
developing a mouse model of antigen-specific diabetes induction.

Outside of the lab, my interests include reading for pleasure, Netflix,
and having my heart broken every spring by my Toronto Maple Leafs.
